Jam SQL Studio for Windows
System requirements
| Operating system | Windows 10 or later, 64-bit. Jam SQL Studio 1.4 is built on Electron 34.3.0 (Chromium 132), which no longer supports Windows 8.1 or earlier. |
|---|---|
| CPU architecture | x64 (Intel or AMD). There is no native ARM64 Windows build. |
| Runtimes | None to install. Chromium, Node.js and every database driver are bundled — including the Oracle Thin driver, so no Oracle Client is needed. |
| Installer | NSIS setup wizard, about 210 MB to download. Per-user by default, so it never asks for an administrator password. |
| Account | Not required. Jam SQL Studio is free for personal, non-commercial use and works offline. |
Installing on Windows
Run JamSQLStudio-latest-win-x64.exe and the setup wizard walks you through it. The default target is a per-user installation inside your own profile, which is why no elevation prompt appears; the wizard also lets you pick a different folder if you keep tools elsewhere. When it finishes, Jam SQL Studio is on your Start menu.
The installer is Authenticode-signed, so Windows shows a7Development Aleksander Kowalczyk as the verified publisher instead of an unknown one. That is the legal name on the code-signing certificate. Once installed, the app is listed in Settings → Apps with Jam SQL Studio as its publisher.
Unattended and scripted installs
The installer is built with NSIS, so it takes the standard NSIS switches. For an unattended install:
JamSQLStudio-latest-win-x64.exe /S Add /D= to choose the target directory. It has to be the final argument and must not be quoted, even when the path contains spaces:
JamSQLStudio-latest-win-x64.exe /S /D=C:\Tools\JamSQLStudio Downloading a specific version
Every release keeps a permanent versioned URL next to the rolling latest one, so you can pin a build or roll back without hunting for a mirror:
- Latest:

How updates work
Jam SQL Studio updates itself. It checks the release feed about a minute after launch and then once an hour, downloads a newer version in the background, and installs it when you quit — so the next launch is already up to date. A manual check lives in Settings → Updates. Releases are rolled out in stages, so a brand-new version does not always reach every machine on the first day; if the in-app update keeps failing, for example behind a restrictive proxy, the app shows a notice pointing you at the manual download so you can install over the top by hand.
What is in the download
- Six engines in one app: SQL Server and Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL and MariaDB, Oracle, SQLite, and Azure Data Explorer (Kusto).
- Query editor with IntelliSense, execution plans, SQL notebooks, table explorer, charts, schema compare and data compare.
- A local MCP server so AI agents can work against your databases under your rules.
- Free for personal, non-commercial use, with no account and no sign-in. Pro is $9.99/month or $99/year, adds a commercial-use licence and lifts the caps on a handful of bulk operations, and comes with a 14-day trial that you start by signing in inside the app (no card required).

Frequently asked questions
Does Jam SQL Studio need administrator rights on Windows?
No. The installer requests only your normal account rights and installs Jam SQL Studio for the current user, so Windows never asks for an administrator password.
How do I install Jam SQL Studio silently?
The Windows installer is built with NSIS, so it accepts the standard NSIS switches. Run the .exe with /S for an unattended install, and add /D= followed by a path to choose the target folder. The /D switch has to be the last argument on the command line and must not be quoted, even if the path contains spaces.
Will Windows SmartScreen block the installer?
The installer is Authenticode-signed, so Windows names a7Development Aleksander Kowalczyk as the verified publisher rather than reporting an unknown one. If SmartScreen still shows a warning on a freshly published build, choose More info and then Run anyway.
How do updates work on Windows?
Jam SQL Studio checks for updates about a minute after launch and then once an hour, downloads the new version in the background, and installs it when you quit the app. You can force a check from Settings → Updates. Releases are rolled out in stages, so a brand-new version does not always reach every machine on the first day.
Is there a portable or MSI build for Windows?
No. The signed NSIS installer is the only Windows artifact we publish, so there is no portable ZIP and no MSI package. The wizard does let you change the installation folder if you need Jam SQL Studio somewhere other than the default location.
